Brussels, 4 November 2021 – In order to attain the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement, countries must accelerate their actions to reduce their emissions. This will be one of the subjects tackled during the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties. A crucial element in reducing emissions is decarbonizing residential heating. Daikin Europe, the market leader in heat pumps, has already taken numerous steps towards becoming carbon neutral and is raising awareness about the importance of heat pumps in decarbonization. It is therefore a proud sponsor of the European Heat Pumps Association’s COP26 road trip to showcase the contribution heat pumps can make. The road trip will also visit a Dutch facility using Daikin products.

The 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), being held in Glasgow, will bring together the world’s leaders to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement. Indeed, the EU needs to be on course to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and try to hit net zero emissions by 2050. One of the biggest challenges to hitting these targets lies in the use of renewable energy, especially in the building stock: Some 36% of all emissions in Europe come from the building sector. Decarbonizing residential heating is a key factor in lowering emissions in the building stock: Out-dated and polluting heating systems should be replaced by climate-friendly heat pumps, which rely on renewable energy.
The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) is organizing, in the light of the COP26, a road trip to highlight the importance and contribution of heat pumps to decarbonizing the continent. EHPA Secretary General, Thomas Nowak, will be visiting various heat pump manufacturers and installations between Düsseldorf and Glasgow from 2 to 11 November. The goal is to show that heat pumps are rapidly becoming more popular in different countries and can be used in new and renovated buildings, in various industries and electric vehicles. Daikin, as the market leader in heat pumps, has long committed to becoming a carbon-neutral company and can only support the COP26 and EHPA’s efforts. The company is therefore proud to be a sponsor of the road trip.
Visit to a facility using low global warming potential Daikin products
Thomas Nowak from EHPA will also be visiting one facility using Daikin products with low GWP (global warming potential). On 4 November, the road trip halts in the Netherlands, at Geelen Counterflow. The company designs, builds and installs counterflow dryers and coolers for feed and food products and is equipped with 2 Daikin chillers (EWYT350B). These dryers and coolers are operational in over 100 countries, in all kinds of companies. Their 8 manufacturing halls are heated and cooled by 2 Daikin heat pumps.
Patrick Crombez, General Manager Heating and Renewables at Daikin will also join in on these visits: “The targets defined during COP26 must include the heating and cooling sector, and more specifically the deployment of heat pumps throughout the continent. It’s a reliable technology and lowers emissions significantly. Daikin is a proud sponsor of EHPA’s road trip, showcasing the contribution heat pumps can make to tackling carbon emission reduction.”
